CMI Toyota have proudly sponsored the iconic City-Bay Fun Run for 13 years, and this year we were especially excited to support the 50th Anniversary of the Lumary City-Bay Fun Run.

Many of our own team and their families stepped up to the challenge to form the ‘CMI Toyota City-Bay Team’. It was great to see almost 90 employees from across CMI Toyota and the CMV Group, and their families, proudly wearing the red ‘Team CMI Toyota’ t-shirts as they walked or ran to Glenelg.

This year, participants braved the chilly morning as they raced from the Adelaide CBD towards the finish line at Glenelg, in the 3km, 6km or 12km walk or run, and the half marathon.

Once they had reached the finish line, our team gathered at the CMI Toyota marquee in Wigley Reserve and enjoyed a delicious breakfast that included toasted croissants, fruit and muffins, plus other delicious refreshments to refuel after their amazing efforts.

It was great to see everyone catch up with other team members to compare their finish times, and rest and recover!

This year’s event saw two of South Australia’s elite athletes, Isaac Heyne and Lumary City-Bay ambassador, Izzi Batt-Doyle claim first place in the men’s and women’s categories for the 12km run, with Jack Rayner and Olympian Jess Stenson coming a close second.

It was fantastic to see more than 23,000 participants sign up for the 50th anniversary, making the event one of the biggest fun runs in Australia, attracting elite athletes and competitors from across the country.

As part of the early entry draw, participants had the chance to win $5,000 which we were proud to donate to encourage people to sign up and be part of this fantastic event.

Each year, the City-Bay’s main goal is to raise funds in support of Athletics in South Australia and other local charity groups. This year the Lumary City-Bay managed to exceed their goal of $250,000, raising an incredible $450,740! Well done to everyone who donated to help reach this incredible amount.

Established in 1973, the Lumary City-Bay Fun Run originally took place between the Adelaide Town Hall and the Glenelg Town Hall, with 1,600 runners paying just 50c to enter the event.

In later years, the event start and finish locations changed as the event continued to evolve. It is great to see how far the event has come over the past 50 years and congratulations to everyone who took part in this year’s event!
