The 2022 Lumary City-Bay Fun Run
CMI Toyota have been proud sponsors of the iconic City-Bay Fun Run for over 11 years and we were ecstatic to be able to participate once again in the 48th Lumary City-Bay Fun Run, after the event’s two-year hiatus!
The atmosphere at this year’s event was fantastic, welcoming 15,000 participants who were all buzzing to be back racing towards The Bay, whether it be the 6km or 12km walk or run, 3km walk, or even the 21.1km half marathon.
Many of our own team and their families stepped up to the challenge to form the ‘CMI Toyota City-Bay team’. It was fantastic to see over 70 of our participants proudly wear the red ‘Team CMI Toyota’ t-shirts as they walked or ran to Glenelg.
Our team enjoyed a big BBQ breakfast and refreshments at the finish line, as they met up with colleagues and other team members to compare the all-important finish times. Plus, the iconic Toyota HiLux was on display for everyone to check out.
It’s not surprising the first person over the finish line for the 12km run was again Australian Olympic Marathon runner, Jack Rayner, with a time of 34:22. Rayner also took out first place in the last City-Bay Fun Run in 2018. Second was Matthew Clarke with a time of 34:27, followed shortly by Liam Adams at 34:50.
South Australia’s very own Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Jessica Stenson, was the first woman across the line in the 12km run, for her tenth City-Bay with a time of 38:43! Jessica recently took out gold in the marathon event at the recent Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Caitlin Adams followed Jessica, with a time of 39:28. Third was Georgia Hansen at 40:06.
Victory was all Erastus Mutua’s in the half marathon as he took out first place with a time of 1:09:35, followed by Bryn Nichols at 1:10:47 and Izzi-Batt Doyle in 1:11:26. Bryn and Izzi then both went on to run the 12km!
The event’s main goal is to raise funds in support of Athletics in South Australia to assist clubs, athletes and the athletics community as a whole. This year the Lumary City-Bay managed to reach their goal of $250,000, raising an incredible $265,518.83 for the South Australian athletics community!
First established in 1973, The City-Bay Fun Run originally ran between the Adelaide Town Hall and the Glenelg Town Hall, with 1,600 runners paying 50c to enter. The event is now one of the biggest fun runs in Australia and attracts elite athletes and competitors from across the country.
It was such a pleasure to see the event back in full force. We look forward to an even bigger and better event next year!
